Regular self-exams are very important for women and young women of all ages, AND men that notice changes in their chest area. Keep in mind ladies, if you detect a lump during your menstrual cycle, it COULD be hormonal. Wait a few days after your cycle to perform your self-exam. If breast cancer runs in your family, you may want to consider having a BRCA gene test to determine if you're at a higher risk for developing breast cancer. Click on the link below to learn how to do a breast self-exam.
Many women forgo their initial mammogram screening, due to fear. DON'T BE AFRAID!!! A mammogram is an x-ray image of the breast. You will find it to be more uncomfortable (and a little embarrassing if you're a shy about standing in the middle of a room topless) than it is painful. You will find it to be more uncomfortable (and a little embarrassing if you're a shy about standing in the middle of a room topless) than it is painful. Women typically begin having annual mammograms at the age of 40. However, if breast changes are noticed prior to age 40 (from self-exams) and breast cancer runs in your family, be your own healthcare advocate and request a mammogram. If a lump is detected, additional tests may be ordered. (i.e. Ultrasound and/or biopsy)
We HAVE to talk more about breast cancer, its symptoms, prevention, and overall breast health. We HAVE to teach our children (boys and girls) about breast cancer. It DOES NOT discriminate on age, race, gender or social status. Find a charity or nonprofit that advocates for breast cancer year round and support their events and initiative
We HAVE to talk more about breast cancer, its symptoms, prevention, and overall breast health. We HAVE to teach our children (boys and girls) about breast cancer. It DOES NOT discriminate on age, race, gender or social status. Find a charity or nonprofit that advocates for breast cancer year round and support their events and initiatives. Here at Ja De'van, LLC, our favorite nonprofit is I Will Survive, Inc. Partial proceeds from our annual breast cancer awareness events benefit IWS. Check out their web site to see the amazing difference they're making in the lives of breast cancer survivors, and feel free to make a tax-deductible donation.
Here at Ja De'van, we support breast cancer awareness year round. Please take a moment to visit the web site of one of our favorite non-profits, I Will Survive, Inc., located in Doraville, GA. Each year, we try to raise funds in our annual breast cancer awareness fair to donate to this amazing charity that supports breast cancer survivors not only in the month of October, but year round. Please be sure to follow them on social media to stay informed about all of their fundraisers, events, and initiatives. Check out all of our breast cancer awareness events memories below.
